Smart Telemetry

The Scannex ip.buffer provides a powerful and flexible Smart Telemetry solution for marine, industrial and scientific applications in standard commercial or rugged NEMA-4X/IP66 environmental enclosures.

A built in 3G cellular modem provides either an on-demand or nailed-up IP link over PPP. Data can be delivered using zlib compression to drastically save bandwidth.

The ip.buffer uses the high assurance INTEGRITY Operating System, from Green Hills Software, for ultra-reliable operation in remote unattended sites.

Data Collection

It can collect from a range of serial or IP sensors and has an extensive set of data delivery options using industry standard TCP/IP protocols, with banking-grade TLS/SSL security.

The powerful Lua scripting core allows customisation of data collection, power management and power control of connected devices.

Bidirectional communication, encryption, and user authentication provide a safe method for remote administration of the ip.buffer as well as connected devices.

Case Study

Scannex supplied the GSM telemetry links to Oceanwise and Valeport for the Port of London Authority tidal monitoring system, known as POLATIDE 5.

OceanWise were the system designer and integrator for the project and provided all the system control, data management and web based user display and administration software. Valeport assisted with system design and provided the monitoring equipment, battery changers and waterproof enclosures.

The ip.buffers monitor the tidal sensors at eight sites around the Thames estuary and provide the 3G cellular VPN link, part of the dual telemetry system.

The ip.buffer also allows remote access to interrogate and administer the tidal sensors, and a scripted control of data collection and transmission to maximise battery life.
